January 26–28: Right after the half marathon, we drove down to the coast to relax for two days. We chose Tamraght because we found a cute and affordable little place with a beautiful view of the sea.

On the way, we stopped in Agadir, a large seaside city, to pick up a few things a friend had sent us. Since she and her parents weren’t in Agadir at the time, she had left the gifts for us at an organic shop — another great example of the endless hospitality of Moroccan people.

We received argan oil, which can be used both in cooking and as a cosmetic. Argan oil is made from the argan tree, native to Morocco, and is often eaten at breakfast by dipping bread into it, or used for cooking and seasoning dishes. We also got honey and amlou, a spread made from argan oil, honey, and almonds — also known as “Amazigh Nutella” — and it’s absolutely delicious for breakfast (our 700 ml jar disappeared alarmingly fast).

Tamraght is a popular surfing destination, but since the waves were very big, we skipped surfing this time. Instead, we walked along the beach, cooked, relaxed — and, of course, drank plenty of mint tea.
